About Yoga

A person who becomes aware of the need to improve, who adopts certain disciplines to experience inner unity, and who, in the course of time, expresses that inner unity in the outer world is known as a yogi. Yoga is a process of moving from personal to the universal. This opens up the heart, which is essential in life.

A human being is a combination of dynamism, emotion, psyche, and intellect. Simultaneous development of these aspects develop an integrated personality.

Yoga means ultimate union. When union between the pranic and mental forces occur, higher consciousness is awakened.

The main objective of hatha yoga ('ha' represents the vital energy; 'tha' represents the mental energy) is to balance the energies, and create harmony in body and mind.

Yoga is a universal science for a healthy body and a healthy mind. Yoga is for everybody-- children, youth, middle-aged, elderly, men, women, and the disabled can all practice yoga.

Yoga postures aim to release block energy from the body points. In hatha yoga, the asanas, pranayama, mudras, and bandhas are systems of purification, which are prerequistes to spiritual awakening.

Hatha yoga is ultimately for developing human consciousness, beyond the body and mind.

Proper yoga practice increase awareness, improves concentration, and provides real relaxation. As the body systems recharge and blockages are removed, prana (vital energy) flows freely. One is able to perceive connections between body and mind.

The goal of Kasi Yoga is to promote unity by maintaining physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual health.

Kasi Yoga approaches union/ yoga mainly through hatha yoga practices of asana (postures), pranayama (breathing), mudra (gestures), bandha (energy locks). Kasi Yoga also teaches mantra and meditation. Read more about Kasi Yoga here.

Swami Sivananda

Life is a journey from impurity to purity, from hatred to cosmic love, from death to immortality, from imperfection to perfection, from slavery to freedom, from diversity to unity, from ignorance to eternal wisdom, from pain to bliss, from weakness to infinite strength.

Yoga teaches us how to curb the outgoing tendencies of the mind and attain the pure state of bliss by going beyond the mind. Yoga teaches how to attain the state of divinity.

He who has not controlled his mind and senses can have no reason; nor can such an undisciplined man think of God. The unthinking man can have no peace; and how can there be happiness for one lacking peace of mind?
